Why we love game of thrones

It took me a while before I could catch my breath after watching the season finale of game of thrones season 7. It wasn't just the incestious romance, the betrayal, the walking dead nor even the overlapping stories that put me in a state of heartbreak or perplexity, but the realization with each passing minute that I would have to wait a year or even two for yet another episode. While reading  various recaps and reviews of the episode, I could not help but notice that it seemed as though I'm the only one who feels nostalgic already even with a season still to come.
Gradually, season 7 had kept on a steady pace of killing off many political (but still major) characters. And with the death of lord Baylish aka little finger ( played by Aiden Gillen) ,one can not but note that it was the straw that broke the camels back and awoken the audiences to the impending curtain close of our favorite show. Little finger through his conniving and plotting, created the chaos that is game of thrones and although his death was foreseen, it marked the beginning of the end of the very best of television drama that has united million of viewers across the globe through various platforms.
But what has been the reason for the success of the show?
First, I think the idea of so many storylines has its appeal. And I for one find that it appeals to the audience in more ways than one.
When one talks about game of thrones, it is difficult to ignore the complexity of the show, which sometimes serve as food for the brain. When one watches and takes his eyes away for a moment, you become lost and miss so much details. Although, paying attention to the shows unique language, settings and culture has its own reward. It requires so much cognitive involvement to keep in line with the ever complex things going on here and there that we naturally seek mental reward by trying to understand more of the show by solving the puzzles before us.
Can we also ignore  the fact that it's one of the very few shows that seems to talk to everyone?
Feminist love the show because of how it has chosen to portray its female characters. Climate change enthusiasts are happy at the hidden message the show sends out about climate change and its effects.
I even read somewhere, that the Night King is the opposite of Donald trump. Where as he tries to build a war, the night King tries to bring it down. So it even relates to modern day politics.
But one very strong reason other than the rest why game of thrones stand out among others is not just the slow pace of the show alone, but the feel of seriousness and being real. It's not comedic in the way we are used to. Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) May crack a joke or two in a while, and we might hear one or two jokes being slipped into the lines here and there now and again but the show runners have managed to give us the impression that this is real. Fans like my self can therefore relate more to the changing characters behavior, which is similar to real life. This is expressed in the way the behaviors of the characters can change at any given point in time. Good can become bad, and bad become good and seek redemption. Characters can even have mood swings. It's for this reason I feel, the Audiences feel they can relate better to the ever diverse characters.
Game of thrones still took reality to a new height by reminding us of the frailty of life. Any character can die at any point in the show. And the creators haven't been shy to flex their powers to this point. And it is with all this, that we invest our emotions into the show and return week in and week out for a piece of reality that is not our own despite repeated heartbreaks.
It's no small task that the show runners have done. How do you convince an audience of mostly nerds to believe that dragons, zombies, witches or magic is real? But somehow, they have and everyone wants a dragon for a pet.
This is not to say that the big budget spendings have not done a lot to push the show up a ladder. But we love them the more for it. With the budget of the show, everything seems to have been done to perfection and we see it and love it.
Regardless of the reasons for why we love the show, one thing is certain. It will be missed when it's gone.
