With the end of game of thrones, atleast for two years, what next? I have had atleast 3 different people come up to me and ask me, if I had any suggestions as to what films would best quench the thirst that is game of thrones, which has left a gap, in our hearts that must be filled.
Although, HBO in an attempt to keep viewers hooked every Sunday nights, have began airing the making of the just concluded season 7 of their most popular show. Which will also feature interviews of the cast. And for any fan of game of thrones, this should come as great news. But then, what about when we simply just want to watch a television show? I have compiled some of the best television series that I think would help take away the game of thrones cravings
American gods: Stars American gods is a show similar to game of thrones in one aspect, and that's the fact that, it requires patience and a little brain work to get around. But once you do, you would be hooked. Presently just had one season, with 8 episodes, American gods dwells on the battle for survival between the new gods and the old gods. it's in my opinion, the next best thing on television
One thing I have noticed and I feel the show runners did exceedingly well at was their home work. The religious depictions of the religion is spot on. And it cut across so many believes and cultures. Maybe a little offensive to some, but I feel, credit should be given where it is due
House of cards: this might seem like a very odd choice, especially if one compares to the likes of game of thrones which is set in a fantasy world, with a modern day political drama. But house of card makes this list and rightly so, not just because of its political theme, but also for its intense level of seriousness and accuracy. Kevin's spacey gave this his all. And this therefore, will make a very good replacement for game of thrones to anyone who loves game of thrones for the games.
And you don't have to like politics to love it. You simply need to love chaos in a show.
Vikings: accuracy, violence, betrayal, sword fights, and an overall well written plot. Vikings has it all. Some people have even compared Vikings to game of thrones and said that it's a better show. I however disagree with them but I won't deny the fact that it's really good to watch! It tells the story of a farm who ultimately becomes king of Denmark and ultimately the most popular man in the country. But Viking
Into the badlands: this wasn't my first pick. And maybe it lacked the complexity of game of thrones or star cast. But being set in a post apocalyptic world, it might not be a bad idea if you seek fantasy and a good sword fight which game of thrones pales in comparison
The walking dead: well if you love the white walkers of Game of Thrones then this is a series about walkers. The walking dead is a masterpiece and one need not be a fan of zombies to enjoy this show. AMC were not shy of blood. Nor where they afraid to show the most grusome of scenes. I don't know what's better; going to my girlfriends house when her parents aren't home, or sitting home for an episode of AMC's The walking dead.
Rome: it's unfortunate that this show has been canceled. It's also unfortunate that it didn't get the rating it deserved. It cost just too much money to produce an episode of the show and it didn't get the audience it deserved to keep it going. I say unfortunately because, Rome could have easily gotten the home every house hold like game of thrones did if a few things had gone right for it. If you feel you miss game of thones, then you should be happy if you haven't watched this series yet because, it might be the thing to take a way that longing
West World: HBO's west world has been tagged has the game of thrones successor and rightly so. It's intense plot and characters brings to life the most unlikely ideas to mind. At first, it might seem a little hard to follow, but has the show goes on, you will find your self a part of the sci fi drama.
It's therefore no wonder that rumor has it, that there might be a game of thrones and west world cross over. If you love game of thrones because it requires brain work, then believe me when I say, west world is the show for you. You'd find your self needing a lot of brain power to keep at the pace of the show
Sons of anarchy: season seven of sons of anarchy is said to return very soon and if you haven't started, then please do before it does. Sons of anarchy has some of the best acting you would hope to find in a television series. IMBD rated it a 9/10. That's all I'll say on the matter.
Am sure that there are many more series out there that are good enough to b on this list, but this are some of the best in my opinion that are similar to game of thrones in one aspect or another.
