THE DARK TOWER: movie review

Well, who doesn’t like an Idris Elba and  Matthew McConaughey movie? That’s a question that normally should need no answer until now.
The Dark Tower is a 2017 American. Science fiction film, directed and co-written by Nikolaj Arcel
The movie, dark tower is a film about
Roland Deschain played by Idris Elba. the last Gunslinger. Who’s is locked in an eternal battle with Walter O'Dim played by Matthew McConaughey, also known as the Man in Black. The Gunslinger must prevent the Man in Black from destroying the Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil.😴😴😴
This film in my opinion, had the ingredients to be a great movie. It had the killer storyline from the book, it had a fan base even before its release, it also had some of the best actors in the world playing major characters, And it even had a good name. But somehow, Dark tower feels like a movie produced on a Low budget and with limited time. In other words, it felt a little bit rushed. Nikolaj Arcel is not known for directing a lot of movies but the few he has directed has earned him worldwide recognition and praise. So I feel i am being very bold in my opinion in saying the majority of the blame should fall on his shoulders for his poor representation of Stephen King's Book.

But I should also explain why dark tower is a complete waste of time to watch and does not deserve a rewatch.
To begin with, the cinematography was poor. Lightning was bad and action sequences were just unwatchable. Dark tower would have made a better case for it self it were released in the year 1997 and not in 2017. Because, it simply was a pain to watch in a world were CGI has made everything so easy.
Moving on to the storyline, it felt like something we have all seen a million times before. A bad guy wants to take over the world, and the responsibility of stopping him falls on the shoulder of one man. Like doesn’t that sound a little too familiar? Yeah I thought so too. In other words, dark tower felt more like a cliche than anything. And that made it too predictable than it should have been.

The only good thing to come out of watching this movie was seeing idris and Matthew do what they were obviously born to do. But even with this great actors, it still wasn’t enough to salvage Nikolaj Arcels own representation of the book.  This goes to show that sometimes one needs more than just good actors to pull some films off.
I would honestly though, want to see idris taking on more bigger roles in the future. He is such a talented act. And we are lucky to have him in our time.
